Manage Your Mental Health Whilst Job Searching

Job hunting can be overwhelming and time consuming, but it can also provide the opportunity for you to really think about what you would like from life and how you can put steps into place to achieve that. Here are some tips on how you can manage your mental health whilst searching for a new role, who knows this could be the opportunity to apply for that job you’ve always dreamed of! 

  1. TELL PEOPLE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR WORK
    Let your family and friends know you are looking for work, talking about it can really help and it could open new doors and opportunities you didn’t know were there.  Remember you’re not alone, and looking for work can be exciting.
     
  2. CELEBRATE THE WINS
    Job searching can bring rejection and can affect your self–esteem, don't let it defeat you! Give yourself a daily boost by noting positives you’ve achieved, whether it’s submitting CV’s, receiving positive feedback or making a new connection. Celebrate the small and the big wins!
     
  3. LEARN NEW SKILLS WHILST YOU JOB SEARCH
    Learning new skills whilst you search for a new role will not only add to your skill pool, but it can also create new opportunities, increase your network and help improve motivation. There are numerous free courses and resources to pull from online, our friends at Cool Ventures is a great example of the free support out there. The world is yours!  
     
  4. BE KIND TO YOURSELF 
    Remember to take a break; take a walk outside, listen to your favourite music, meditate, phone a friend or family member – anything that recentres your mind. A break can give you enough energy to come back refreshed and refocused.
